- ~Organises beauty and healthcare trainings for Self-Help Women’s Group~
Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company has undertaken various activities with an aim to improve the quality of life and uplift the economic conditions of communities living in its area of operations. In its endeavor towards building a self-reliant community, Tata Power’s wholly-owned subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) organised a beauty and healthcare training program for Self- Help Group women and adolescent girls from the disadvantaged communities in Nana Bhadiya, Mundra.
The objective of this initiative was to develop the entrepreneurial skills of the women in the community, which would in turn increase employment and enhance secondary income. The programme was implemented in partnership with Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) where more than 20 women were trained on beauty culture as well as healthcare practices. Basis this training, 4 women from the Self-Help group have already worked out a business model and initiated their own beauty salons in the village..
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. K. K. Sharma, ED & CEO, CGPL, said, “Tata Power is committed to the development of the local communities in and around its project areas. We have consistently taken steps to empower and develop skill-based initiatives for the Self-help group members. Tata Power firmly believes that women are at the center of building the social capital of India and their development is synonymous with India’s development. This latest initiative organised by CGPL in partnership with the village Panchayat and JSS is aimed to increase their employment opportunities. We are delighted with the response from the participants, and aim to continue organising such initiatives”.
The Company has been conducting entrepreneurship trainings and similar programmes for the Self Help Group members since the last 7 years. Post successful completion of the course, each trainee also received a certificate qualifying them as beauty professionals.
